On Thursday 8 September 2011 at 2:30-4:00 pm, Nawal El Saadawi will give a public lecture at the Nordic House. The lecture is hosted by the Centre for Women´s and Gender Studies at the University of Iceland and the Reykjavík International Literary Festival. The title of El Saadawi´s lecture is „Creativity, Dissidence and Women“ where she will be focusing on the meaning of those concepts and analyse them in the context of religion. Furthermore, she will discuss the potential of women´s creativity as a threat to oppressive political regimes. After El Saadawi‘s talk there will be panel discussions chaired by Sigríður Þorgeirsdóttir, professor of philosophy. Participants in the panel are: Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladóttir, former Minister for Foreign Affairs; Hoda Thabet, PhD student at the Faculty of Icelandic and Comparative Cultural Studies and part-time teacher at the University of Iceland, and Khaled Mansour, specialist with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and a fellow at the Gender Equality Studies and Training Programme at the University of Iceland. |
